Wheelchair Rugby is a mixed team sport for male and female disabled athletes. A unique sport created by disabled athletes, it combines elements of rugby, basketball and handball. Players compete in teams of 4 or 5, depending on the discipline, with the main aim to carry the ball across the opposing team's goal line. Contact between wheelchairs is permitted, and is in fact an integral part of the sport as players use their chairs to block and hold opponents. The players compete in manual wheelchairs that are specifically designed for the sport and are able to withstand the contact element of the game.
GBWR are excited to be part of the Limitless Living UK event at Sandown Park. We will be available to introduce people to our sport and will be running 4 taster sessions each day for an opportunity to have a go at this fast and furious game.
